I'm Hawley, a theatre-maker based in Brooklyn. My pronouns are They/Them.
I've been a theatre-maker since childhood, making masks out of leaves & choreographing dances to my mom’s Enya CDs. Or building large-scale immersive chalk cities, wrangling the neighbor kids into elaborate games.
Graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, the New Studio on Broadway, I have been making my artistic way in NYC for a decade now, exploring the industry from many viewpoints – commercial, not-for-profit, downtown underground, independent film, solo music, etc.

This thing we do, the whole called-to-be-a-story-teller thing, is what gives my life meaning & shape. At the risk of sounding hokey (though I think you’ll understand me), I would not be who I am today without theatre, without stories. That’s a powerful thing.
The projects I tend to work on are explorations of change – of all sizes, tempos, rhythms – a theme I feel drawn to over & over again. My curiosity & passion are the tools of my purpose. I cherish rigor. I am learning to cherish silliness.
I seek out deep communal collaborations, because I believe theatre is a team sport* – no one is alone. We can’t do this work alone.
All it takes is invested, committed interest & let me tell you, when it comes to what we do: I’m interested.
Are you?
*Julia Cameron (author of The Artist’s Way) calls creativity “a tribal endeavor”; I wholeheartedly agree.
